ADAS and driver-assistance systems
Today's cars rely on cameras and sensors to help you drive safely. After a collision, they have to work exactly as designed.
What ADAS is
ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems. These are the safety features that watch the road for you, such as:
- blind-spot monitoring
- pre-collision warning and automatic emergency braking
- lane-keeping and lane-departure cameras
- adaptive cruise control
- parking and backup sensors
Why a collision affects them
The cameras, radar units and sensors behind these features sit in bumpers, grilles, mirrors and behind the windshield. Even a minor collision, a replaced bumper, or structural and alignment work can change where a sensor points. A system that is slightly off can warn you too late, or not at all, so it has to be checked after a repair.
How we handle it
- Scan before. We check the vehicle's systems before the repair starts, so we know what the damage has affected.
- Repair to the manufacturer's procedures. Body, structural and paint work is done the way the vehicle manufacturer specifies.
- Scan after. We check the systems again once the repair is complete.
- Calibrate where required. Any calibration the manufacturer requires is completed, and the systems are confirmed working, before you get your car back.
We will tell you what was checked and what was done.

Questions about ADAS
Does my car need calibration after a repair?
It depends on the vehicle, the damage and the repair. The vehicle manufacturer's repair procedures say when a camera or sensor has to be calibrated, and we follow them.
Is calibration part of my insurance claim?
When a repair requires it, calibration is part of the repair, so it is listed in the repair estimate and discussed with your insurer as part of the claim. Read how we help with claims.
